You can upload your own PowerPoint template in Crunch. By "template" we refer to the Slide Master in PowerPoint that includes your watermark/background, PowerPoint color palette, and font settings:
Any coloring of charts that you do in Crunch (such as by manually changing a color on a category or by applying a color palette template) will override any of the colors set in the PowerPoint slide master.
The PowerPoint template (Slide Master) works at the organizational level as well as at the folder level. That means you can have a template for your organization and then other templates within each folder. The templates you set for a folder override those inherited from containing folders, all the way up to the organization one.
There are two essential steps you need to do when uploading a template, which are described in the following sections:

- Uploading a PowerPoint template to Crunch
Making a usable PowerPoint template
Creating a template is simple and flexible in most situations (such as working with page sizes, all non-placeholder content, and formatting within placeholders), but there are a few things you should be aware of when creating a new template:
- The template is based only on a pair of "Slide Masters" as well as a few tagged placeholder objects within each of them. Disturbing the required items (deleting identifiers, deleting placeholders, and so on) can cause the system to not be able to render a PowerPoint (.pptx) file. Some other limitations are built into the .pptx format (e.g., color palettes) and are discussed here.
- You can also learn more about Slide Masters here. The main relevant ones for Crunch exports are the placeholders of type chart and table that appear on the first and second Slide Masters in the template, respectively. The system does some overrides of formatting contained in a placeholder, such as applying colors specified in Crunch, so that they match what you see in the Crunch app. Some aspects of formatting of objects that may appear inside a Placeholder object may be preserved, others may not.
Before uploading a template, make sure your PowerPoint template contains the required placeholder objects in both of two slide masters (one for tables and one for graphs).
To do this, simply save any analysis into a deck and export it into a .pptx (PowerPoint) format. See the Saving, Exporting, and Sharing Analyses article for more information. Alternatively, you can use the Crunch PowerPoint Template, which is already downloaded from Crunch.
After exporting it, open the PowerPoint report and click Slide Master in the View menu, which opens the following page:
Each of these elements has a special tag that Crunch uses to place your slide titles, subtitles, content, and filter text.
In the 'Slide Master' View, you can add your logo, change text colors, and set the desired alignment of the slide. When you finish, save the template with a meaningful name. Any actual slides in the document will be exported first before your Crunch content is rendered using these two special slide master layouts for each slide in your Crunch deck.
Do not delete any of the placeholder objects on the slide master layout. It may be possible, depending on the tool you use to edit the PowerPoint document, to copy and paste the special Crunch objects into a different document. However, we cannot guarantee that your specific editing tools will preserve the identifying markers.
Uploading a PowerPoint template into Crunch
When your Powerpoint template is already in a Crunch-friendly format, you can upload it into Crunch.
Organizational-level PowerPoint template
To upload a PowerPoint Template at the organizational level, you must be the account admin in Crunch. If you are not, please ask an admin on your team. Alternatively, you can reach out to firstname.lastname@example.org in case you need further help.
Once you log in with admin access, open the organization settings by clicking the 3 dots menu:
In the organization settings, the last option shows you 'PowerPoint Template'. If no templates have been previously uploaded, it shows "No template uploaded":
To upload a new template, click the Upload link, which is directly under No template uploaded (shown in the screenshot above). When the Upload dialog box opens, find and select the Crunch-Friendly PowerPoint Template, and then click Upload.
You can now export decks into your own PowerPoint Templates.
Folder-level PowerPoint template
Admins and editors can upload a folder-level PowerPoint template. To do so, go to the folder into which you want to upload the template. Click on the down arrow next to the folder name and then click on the Settings (as shown in the following):
Similar to organization settings, you will find the last option as 'PowerPoint Template'. If no templates have been previously uploaded, it shows "No template uploaded" (as shown in the following):
To upload a new template, click the Upload link, which is directly under 'No template uploaded' (shown in the screenshot above). When the 'Upload' dialog box opens, find and select the Crunch-friendly PowerPoint Template, and then click Upload.
You can export decks into your own PowerPoint templates now. Note, if there is no folder-level template, decks will follow the organization-level PowerPoint template (if available).
