There may be a time when the categories of a categorical variable need to be rearranged (e.g., you want to put a particular brand at the top of the list or when imported, the youngest age group is shown at the bottom rather than the top of the list).

In the web app

• In the variable summary view for a categorical variable, you can hover over a variable's tile and click the Properties link at the bottom left under the tile. From the Variable Properties screen, drag and drop the categories to the order you would prefer.

Note: You will need to have Editor permissions and may need to unlock the dataset using the icon on the top right of the header bar to have editing permissions for the dataset to make these changes.
