Tab books are a legacy market research deliverable. Historically important as it allowed researchers to have lots of different data cuts presented to them. The idea for so many cuts and extensive banners, was to ensure the researcher would have all the analysis they needed in the tab book.
Crunch alleviates the need for tab books in many respects. The researchers can make their own tables easily in the dataset. If required, they can export tab using the Multitables feature.
Many Table Customizations are available in the web app - but certain custom configurations require scripting (R) - for example, customizing the alpha levels to levels not displayed in the web app.
