Dataset editors can create filters (also known as “groups” or “audiences”) that viewers can use to filter all of the analyses across the dashboard at once. Any analyses that are already filtered will have their own filters as well as the dashboard filters applied.
Applying filters to a dashboard
To add filters to a dashboard, click the Edit button in the upper right to put the dashboard in edit mode (this is only available to editors of that dataset). Add filter variables to the dashboard by clicking the + icon in the header, followed by the Groups option from the dropdown menu. This will slide in the filter creation interface:
Click or drag the variables you want to use as filters to the Drag variable here dropzone. You can arrange the order of the variables by dragging and dropping them in the list. If you think your users will likely want to combine categories from the variables you’ve included (e.g., choosing more than one region or more than one age range at once), switch “Selection within groups” to “Multiple”. By default, grouping variables let users switch between their categories one at a time.
When finished, click Save.
After saving, the selected variables will appear in a sidebar to the left of the dashboard:
No group filters are applied by default to a dashboard but users can choose to apply their choice of filters from the Groups panel. The options selected in this panel are visible only to the current user. The view for any other user of the dataset is not changed. If you would like to share a particular pre-filtered view of the dashboard (to someone who already has access to the dataset), you can copy the URL of the dashboard and send that to them since the URL contains the current filter selection.
Removing and Editing filters
To remove individual filters, click the "×" next to the filter name while in edit mode. To remove all currently applied filters, click “Reset Groups” at the bottom of the sidebar. To reopen the filter interface panel, click Edit groups near the bottom of the sidebar.
