After you find and open your dataset, you’re taking into the main area of Crunch. The Crunch screen is divided into three main sections:
- Bar — which is the grey strip at the top (it can jump you to different views)
- Accordion — the nickname for the left-hand panel where all your variables/questions live
- Main area — which is the bulk of the screen where all the tables and graphs happen
In the Accordion, you should have all your variables in folders (and subfolders) so you can easily find what you need.
In the article Requesting a tidy dataset from a DP team (dataset specs), we discuss how you can get your DP department to organize variables for you.
If and only if you have Editor rights, you wish to move variables around in the Accordion yourself and/or retitle them. In that case, you go to Dataset Properties > Edit Variables. The steps are outlined here. You know if you're an Editor because you'll see a little padlock (either locked or unlocked) in the far top-right corner of the bar. If you don't have that, you're a Viewer.
